User Scenario
Onboarding
Users want to love their software like we do. But they don’t because they ...
don’t know how to use it
they don’t know it has that super-helpful feature you built
or they don’t know where to find the thing they’re looking for
In fact, data shows 80% of software users use only 20% of its features. That’s where onboarding comes in.
Onboarding — which is a curated introduction for users who are new to a piece of software — creates a positive first impression, sets the tone for an enjoyable and productive experience, and guarantees users learn what’s needed for them to be successful. It also lowers on-going support costs, increases retention rates, and increases overall customer satisfaction. Onboarding ensures user success, which in turn ensures our own.
Screen Designs
We designed concepts for onboarding, inline training, and user personalization setting within the application. These concepts show the potential of integrating supportability into our products.
Welcome Screen
Welcome to the Universal Banking onboarding experience! First time users are greeted with a onboarding menu to ease them into using the system. Select the Take a Tour option below to experience the first learning path.
Tour the Dashboard
Selecting the Take a Tour option presents users with additional choices that introduce the general interface as well as specific features and capabilities. More general, introductory options are presented first in this list.
Guided Highlights
As we take a tour around the dashboard, tool tips highlight the most important sections and elements so users understand the features and capabilities included in the dashboard.
Instructional tool tips don’t have to contain just text — videos, images, and more can be added to give better insight and instruction to our users. The Calendar View tool-tip is an example of how we can integrate more complex concepts through short video clips.
Beyond just using tool tips for a guided tour of the interface, we can add other helpful patterns to enrich the experience of our user enabling us to make announcements, provide progressive checklists, and more!
Customize the Interface
This featured onboarding option shows users how to configure the interface to work like they work.
These preference settings are used to personalize a user’s experience, making the system work the way they work. They can add and remove modules and features, change the look and feel, and much more.
Another way to personalize the user experience is with helper widgets. Widgets offer a selection of quick-access tools at the bottom of the screen to provide reference or productivity enhancements that save us time and help us work more efficiently.
Themes enable users to customize the interface look and feel to their preference. They can change the appearance to a Light or Dark theme, but this also provides our customers a way to theme Universal Banking to match their own brand.
